Albert Cash was born in 1895, one of nine children born to John (a bricklayers labourer) and Annie Cash of 3, White Bear Yard, Canute Square, Knutsford. On leaving school Albert became a Post Office messenger boy.
His service records no longer exist but we know he joined the army in 1914, becoming Private no. 1628 in the 1st/5th Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment. He arrived in France on the 15th February 1915. He was killed in action on the ist July 1916.

Attack on FAIR FARM
Attack commenced at 7.30am
The attack went over by platoons in 3 waves behind LRB (London Rifle Brigade), QWR (Queens West Riding) QVR (Queen Victoria Rifles).
Owing to the intense bombing by the Germans many casualties were inflicted on the company which had to eventually withdraw from the enemys position about 8am. No platoon commanders returned with their men.
Killed 4 officers 113 OR.
