William Brown was born in Mobberley in 1881, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth who went on to reside at 94, Moss Lane, Hale, Cheshire. William continued to reside at Mobberley as a boarded in Pepper Lane and later at New Mill. William was a farm labourer.

He enlisted in the 9th Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment, becoming Private no. 12703.

He arrived in France on the 19th July 1915.

William was killed in action on the 4th July 1916.
