Born and enlisted Crewe. Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Rimmer of 24, Oak Street, Crewe. Worked prior to enlisting (on September 2, 1914) in the Copper Shop, Crewe Works as a labourer. Embarked from Southampton for France on September 25, 1915. Originally posted as missing after a bayonet charge.
