Enlisted 8th September 1914, promoted Lance Corporal, 25th June 1916. Invalided (?) back to England, 3rd September 1916, (possibly) as a result of gunshot wounds to left leg and buttock. Posted back to France 5th January 1916. Received Princess Mary’s Christmas Gift, 24th Deecmber 1914. Son of Elizabeth Snelson, 23 Christleton Road, Chester and the late William Egerton Snelson (made Freeman of Chester 1886). Sisters, Alice, Marjorie, Hilda and Constance.

His name appears on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.

Whilst Residing at 52 Calbourne Road, Balham, London, was made Freeman of Chester on 15th August 1913 by birth.
