Thomas Povey was the son of George and Sarah Povey, of 29, Brooke St., Runcorn andhusband of Sarah Elizabeth Alcock (formerly Povey), of 13, Ernest St., Lovely Lane, Warrington.
He was 27 years of age and prior to enlisting in September 1914 he worked as a labourer at the Sprinch Yard. He was a member of the Runcorn Tally ho Harriers, and at the time of his death was the 16th member of the club to have died. He was also a member of the Vicars Bible Class, and as a boy attended the Parish Day School and Sunday school.
Thomas lost his life in the sinking of the Transylvania by a German U boat off the coast of Italy. Presumed drowned.
He had returned home in December 1916, wounded and also suffered from shell shock and had been in a number of hospitals recovering. 
He had volunteered to go out to the east and before going out on April 16th 1917 had been married the previous day.
