Daniel was the oldest son of Samuel and Mary Ellen Trueman of 55, Union Street Sandbach, born 1881. He was married to Sarah Challinor, they had two children, Sam and Elsie, and resided at 103 Union Street, Sandbach.
Daniel had served sixteen years in the army. He was serving in India and then sent out to South Africa to fight in the Boer war. He was employed at Brunner Mound at the outbreak of the Great war, as being a reservist he was recalled to join his regiment.
He was posted to the Dardanelles then transferred to the Persian Gulf campaign. A lot of soldiers serving in this campaign came down with illness due to the poor and unsanitary conditions and died of dysentery.
